First in Belgium! Nerdland Festival with Hydrogen generator!

A first in Belgium!
A festival's foodcourt runs on hydrogen all weekend long!

The Nerdland Festival is a very popular festival for ‘nerds’ and the whole family in Flanders, Belgium. More than 20,000 visitors came to discover and enjoy all the activities (concerts, shows, experiments, demonstrations, etc.) organised around the theme on Friday evening 24 and the weekend of 25-26 May.

Among the visitors were Prime Minister A. De Croo, a nerd from South Africa (more than 10,000 km from home), Belgian astronaut Frank De Winne and a whole host of Dutch-speaking celebrities.

A foodcourt was also set up to feed everyone! The foodcourt was powered for the duration of the festival by 2 generators running on green hydrogen – a first for Belgium!

Eneria Belgique & Luxembourg supplied the equipment and workforce to festival partner Fluxys.

That’s 14 fully-used gas racks, each containing 18 bottles of 50 litres. That’s 900 litres per rack! The racks were under 300 bars. In other words, 220 kg of hydrogen produced 3300 KWH of electrical power. At their peak, between midday and 2pm on Saturday, the 2 gensets were running at 120 KW!

A great challenge, and a superb reputation that has put hydrogen and Eneria BE in the spotlight… as far away as Switzerland!

We’re looking forward to next year’s event, and a date has already been added in view of the success!
